"An easy to use utility that enables you to share your desktop screen with a remote computer. Unlike most other remote computing tools, CrossLoop is focused on ease-of-use for non-technical users. A simple interface allows you to start a sharing session with a friend who also has CrossLoop installed. For

security reasons, the program uses 128-bit encryption and generates a random 12-digit key, that you must transmit to the person (by email, phone, instant message or similar means) before they can connect your computer. Once you

have started the server and your friend has entered the key, you will receive a request, allowing you to share your screen and control your desktop. CrossLoop integrates TightVNC.

Pros: Very easy to use, no technical experience needed

Cons: Key exchange can get annoying with frequent use; no text chat included

Note! This product may cause your anti-virus software to show an alert! You may need to temporarily disable the auto-protect feature of your anti-virus software before you download CrossLoop. Anti-Virus products may detect a

file in this program to be malicious, which it is not."

"You run PuTTY on a Windows machine, and tell it to connect to (for example) a Unix machine. PuTTY opens a window. Then, anything you type into that window is sent straight to the Unix machine, and everything the Unix machine

sends back is displayed in the window. So you can work on the Unix machine as if you were sitting at its console, while actually sitting somewhere else. "

"VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the "server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer anywhere on the Internet.

The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout

industry, academia and privately."  --RealVNC.com

"VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a
computing desktop environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and
from a wide variety of machine architectures. You can run programs, open desktop applications, folders and do just
about anything you could do while sitting in from of it."
